Short summary (English)

Department of Pomology through scientific and technical projects participated in the establishment of large fruit plantations which led to the organized production of fruit, which ever since has been exported in significant quantities. Department plays the significant role in the introduction of new fruit cultivars and rootstocks. Research activity includes the impact of the pruning, the training form, plant density, cultivar and soil on growth and yield, chemical composition and fruit quality. The Department is conducting continued work on the research activities of pre- and post-harvest factors affecting the length and quality of fruit storage. In this section, special emphasis was placed on the development of environmentally friendly post-harvest treatments that maintains the post-harvest quality of the fruit. There are specially emphasized heat treatments and treatments with essential oils. The Institute has three experimental stations (Maksimir, holes, and Šašinovečki lug) in which continuously carries out research and teaching activity.

Short summary (Croatian)
