Short summary (English)

Modern trends in genetics, plant breeding and biometrics are continuously followed in the department. Traditional breeding and selection methods are implemented and revisited in the wheat and maize breeding programs, while modern molecular methods for identification and characterization of plant material are being adopted as soon as they are discovered. The most relevant achievement of the department in this field was inventarisation of the autochthonous vine varieties. Department has a modern biotechnology lab, equipped with Abi3130 genetic analyzer, which regularly performs analyses using AFLP and SSR molecular markers, and, according to need, DNA sequencing. Field trials efficiency is constantly being improved by more efficient designs of experiments. data obtained from field trials is instantly analyzed in biometrics lab, using traditional and modern statistical methods implemented in SAS, R, CycDesign and ASREML software. As soon as new molecular methods are implemented in the departments lab, adequate methods for statistical analysis of such data are researched and implemented.

Djelatnici zavoda kontinuirano prate suvremene trendove u genetici, oplemenjivanju bilja i biometrici. Tradicionalne metode križanja i selekcije usavršavaju se u programima oplemenjivanja pšenice i kukuruza, dok se suvremene molekularne metode za identifikaciju i karakterizaciju biljnog materijala usvajaju paralelno s njihovom pojavom u svijetu znanosti. Najveći doseg tu je postignut u inventarizaciji autohtonih sorata vinove loze. U suvremenom biotehničkom laboratoriju, opremljenom Abi3130 genetičkim analizatorom, standardno se koriste molekularni biljezi AFLP i SSR, a po potrebi i DNA sekvenciranje. Učinkovitost poljskih pokusa u oplemenjivačkim programima stalno se unaprijeđuje efikasnijim planovima pokusa. Podaci iz pokusa se odmah po mjerenju analiziraju u biometrijskom laboratoriju klasičnim i modernim statističkim metodama uz korištenje računalnih programa SAS, R, CycDesign, ASREML. Paralelno sa uvođenjem novih molekularnih metoda, uvode se i statističke metode za analizu tako dobivenih podataka.
