Short summary (English)

Department of Meteorology has expertises in: (1) Analysis and modeling of air quality over a complex topography and environmental impacts studies (dynamic structure and turbulent characteristics of airflows over complex terrain, contributions of traffic and industry related sources to the air quality, the roles of specific weather conditions, such as thermally induced up- and down-slope, and, sea- and land-breeze local circulations, bora and sirocco winds etc., utilizing of air quality models (EMEP, EMEP4HR and CAMx), mesoscale meteorological model (WRF) and observational data analysis). (2) Theoretical explanation and numerical modeling of basic orographic atmospheric circulations (wave-turbulence interactions, meso- and micro-scale processes at the Adriatic coast and mountains, 3-dimensionality, unsteadiness and turbulence of sea-breeze, bora, scirocco, mountain and valley flows based on measurements, observations, as well as analytical and numerical modeling). (3) Climate modeling (climate change, teleconnections).

U sklopu znanstveno istraživačkog rada iz područja meteorologije Geofizički je zavod razvio istraživačke ekspertize koje uključuju: (1) analizu i modeliranje kakvoće zraka nad kompleksnom topografijom te studije utjecaja na okoliš (dinamička struktura i karakteristike turbulencije strujanja zraka nad kompleksnim terenom, doprinos prometa i industrije onečišćenju zraka, uloga specifični meteoroloških uvjeta na onečišćenje kao što su primjerice vjetar obronka, obalna cirkulacija, bura, jugo na temelju opaženih i izmjerenih meteoroloških podataka kao i onih dobivenih numeričkim modelima kakvoće zraka (EMEP, EMEP4HR, CAMx), mezoskalnim meteorološkim modelom (WRF) i analizom izmjerenih podataka. (2) Teorijska analiza i numeričko modeliranje bazičnih orografskih atmosferskih cirkulacija (međudjelovanje val-turbulencija, mezoskalni i mikroskalni procesi u priobalju i planinama, trodimenzionalnost, nestacionarnost i turbulentnost bure, juga, dolinskih, obalnih i planinskih cirkulacija na temelju opaženih i izmjerenih podataka te analitičkog i numeričkog modeliranja). (3) Klimatsko modeliranje (klimatske promjene, daljinske veze).
