Short summary (English)

The Department of Control and Computer Engineering (ZARI) has a long tradition of basic and applied research in the areas of control and computer engineering. Expertise of the Department can be divided into the following categories: • robotics, • renewable energy sources, • process automation and • computer engineering. The activities of the Department in the field of robotics cover land mobile and service robotics, aerial robotics, underwater robotics and industrial robotics. In the field of renewable energy sources the Department has made considerable progress in the advanced control of wind turbines, wind farms, photovoltaic plants and fuel cell stacks. A large number of industrial partners and expert industrial solutions are the main indicator of the quality of work of the Department in the field of process automation. In the field of computer engineering the Department has achieved significant results in the development of computer architectures, open computing and distance learning. In addition, research interest of a group of staff members is based on multiagent systems, and advanced image processing and segmentation with emphasis on application in medicine. Special attention in all areas of research is given to multidisciplinarity in terms of application in areas where the end-users of these advanced technologies are to be found. The quality of results obtained at the Department is proved by numerous publications and cooperation established with many similar universities. The Department has been recognized in Europe and worldwide as a competitive and qualified participant in numerous research and industrial projects. In addition to research, the essential components are teaching and students who have the opportunity to work with modern, state-of-the-art technical systems and projects which are available through a number of international and national projects.

Zavod za automatiku i računalno inženjerstvo (ZARI) ima dugogodišnju tradiciju u temeljnim i primijenjenim istraživanjima u područjima automatskog upravljanja i računalnog inženjerstva. Ekspertize Zavoda mogu se podijeliti u sljedeće kategorije: • robotika, • obnovljivi izvori energije, • procesna automatizacija i • računalno inženjerstvo. U području robotike Zavod provodi intenzivna istraživanja koja obuhvaćaju uslužnu i industrijsku robotiku, zračnu robotiku te podvodnu robotiku. U području obnovljivih izvora energija Zavod je ostvario znatne pomake u naprednim metodama upravljanja upravljanja vjetroagregatima, vjetroelektranama, fotonaponskim postrojenjima i gorivnim člancima. Veliki broj industrijskih partnera s kojima su ostvarena ekspertna industrijska rješenja glavni su pokazatelj kvalitete djelovanja Zavoda na području procesne automatizacije. Na području računalnog inženjerstva Zavod je ostvario značajne rezultate u razvoju računalnih arhitektura, otvorenom računarstvu i učenju na daljinu. Uz to, istraživački se interes grupe djelatnika zasniva na multiagentskim sustavima te naprednom procesiranju i segmetaciji slike s posebno naglašenom primjenom u medicini. Poseban je naglasak u svim područjima istraživanja stavljen na multidiciplinarnost u smislu primjene u područjima u kojima se nalaze krajnji korisnici razvijenih tehnologija. Ostvarenja Zavoda rezultirala su velikim brojem publikacija i brojnim suradnjama koje su ostvarene sa srodnim sveučilištima. U područjima svojih ekspertiza Zavod je u Europi i svijetu prepoznat kao konkurentan i kvalitetan sudionik u brojnim istraživačkim i industrijskim projektima. Uz istraživanje, bitna je i intenzivna nastavna djelatnost Zavoda, koja je posebno vidljiva u mentorskom odnosu prema studentima kojima je omogućen rad na modernim, „state-of-the-art“ tehničkim sustavima i projektima koji su dostupni zahvaljujući većem broju međunarodnih i nacionalnih projekata.
