Short summary (English)

The department was established in 1920th under the name Department of Economic and Chemistry in the then newly established Economic and Forestry Faculty of Zagreb. Since 1920 to 1955 the department was the only institution in the region engaged in scientific and technical issues of technology for agricultural products. During that time, employees of the department provide a significant contribution to the technology of alcohol and vinegar production, and the brewers and alcoholic malt production. Since 1946 to 1985 the previous research and expands on the areas of storage and preservation of fruits and vegetables, including optimal utilization of secondary products from fruits and vegetables in industrial processing. Since 1985 the work of the department was expanded to the problems of production technology of feed mixtures, grain processing and storage. In this area is intensively cooperating with the economy, particularly in developing technology for grain and oilseeds drying, as well as the industrial production of feed, automation and regulation of production and technological processes. In the field of scientific work of the Institute reported three patents. Department 1992nd expanded its activities and research related to issues of renewable energy sources. Department continuously involved in teaching, scientific research and cooperation with industry, which is reflected through the monitoring, planning, consulting, control, automation and instrumentation of the areas of completion and processing of agricultural products, transportation, storage, drying and cooling processes, production of feed and energy production from biomass.

Zavod je osnovan 1920. godine pod imenom Zavod za gospodarsko-kemijsku tehnologiju u okviru tadašnjeg novoutemeljenog Gospodarsko-šumarskog fakulteta u Zagrebu. U razdoblju od 1920. do 1955. godine Zavod je jedina institucija na ovim prostorima koja se bavi znanstvenim i stručnim problemima tehnologije poljoprivrednih proizvoda. U prvim godinama djelovanja djelatnici zavoda daju znatan doprinos u tehnologiji proizvodnje alkohola i octa te proizvodnji pivarskog i alkoholnog slada. Od 1946. do 1985. godine dotadašnji istraživački rad i proširuje se na područja skladištenja i konzerviranja voća i povrća. Dio te djelatnosti odnosi se na istraživanja optimalnog iskorištenja sekundarnih proizvoda od voća i povrća dobivenih u industrijskoj preradi. Od 1985. godine rad zavoda proširen je i na probleme dorade i skladištenja zrnatih ratarskih proizvoda i tehnologiju proizvodnje krmnih smjesa. Na tom području se intenzivno surađuje s gospodarstvom, posebice na razvoju tehnologije sušenja i sušara za žitarice i uljarice, kao i na industrijskoj proizvodnji krmnih smjesa, automatizaciji i regulaciji tih proizvodno-tehnoloških postupaka. Iz područja znanstvenog rada Zavoda prijavljena su tri patentna zahtjeva. U tehnologiju sušenja kukuruza prof. dr. Katić uvodi dvofazno sušenje koje je zbog svojih prednosti uvedeno u praksu kod nas i u Europi. Zavod 1992. proširuje svoje djelovanje i na istraživanja vezana za problematiku obnovljivih izvora energije. Od osnutka do danas Zavod neprekidno sudjeluje u nastavi, znanstvenoistraživačkom radu i suradnji s gospodarstvom koja se očituje putem nadzora, projektiranja, consultinga, regulacije, automatizacije i instrumentalizacije u područjima dorade i prerade svih poljoprivrednih proizvoda, transporta, skladištenja, sušenja, hlađenja, proizvodnje krmnih smjesa i proizvodnje energije iz biomase.
