Short summary (English)

Department of analytics and control of medicines is devoted to research and research-based teaching within drug analysis. Our research activities focus on development of new analytical methods for quality control of drugs and dietary supplements. Our activities include determination of active and toxic compounds present in pharmaceutical formulations, dietary supplements and dermatological preparations using high-performance liquid chromatography with diode-array, fluorescence and mass detection, gas chromatography with flame ionization and mass detection and capillary electrophoresis. Solid-phase extraction and headspace sampling are used for analysis of complex pharmaceutical products. More recently, in collaboration with other research groups our investigations are extended to determination of drugs and their metabolites in biological samples. Our current project includes the development of new electroanalytical methods for identification and quantification of drugs in dosage forms and biological fluids at the therapeutic level of concentrations. Novel electrochemical sensors are developed for assaying of drugs with high selectivity in commercial pharmaceutical products. Electrochemical properties of pharmacologically active substances are studied as a simple model of the metabolic redox processes. Our research involves the development of new procedures for trace analysis of organic (phenols) and inorganic (heavy metals) substances using solid-phase spectrophotometry as well as the development and characterization of optical sensors for heavy metal analysis. Tthe prevalidation strategy are used to evaluate the quality of developed analytical procedures. Our activities also include the qualitative and quantitative analysis of bioactive substances (i.e. tannins, flavonoids, phenolic acids, and phytosterols) in plant material using high-performance thin-layer chromatohraphy and UV-Vis spectrophotometry.

Zavod za analitiku u kontrolu lijekova posvećen je istraživanjima u području analitike lijekova. Istraživanja su prvenstveno usmjerena na razvoj novih analitičkih metoda za kontrolu kvalitete lijekova i dodataka prehrani. Ispitivanja uključuju određivanje aktivnih i toksičnih sastavnica ljekovitih pripravaka, dodataka prehrani i dermatoloških pripravaka primjenom tekućinske kromatografije visoke djelotvornosti (UV, fluorescencijska i masena detekcija), plinske kromatografije (plameno-ionizacijski i maseni detektor) i kapilarne elektroforeze. Za složene uzorke koriste se tehnike pripreme uzoraka poput ekstrakcije na čvrstoj fazi i headspace uzorkovanja. U suradnji s drugim istraživačkim grupama odnedavno su naša istraživanja proširena i na ispitivanje lijekova i njihovih metabolita u biološkim uzorcima. U okviru našeg projekta razvijaju se nove elektroanalitičke metode za identifikaciju i kvantifikaciju ljekovitih tvari u farmaceutskim formulacijama i biološkim tekućinama na razini terapijskih koncentracija. Dizajnirani su novi elektrokemijski senzori za analizu lijekova s visokom selektivnošću u komercijalnim farmaceutskim proizvodima. Elektrokemijska svojstva farmakološki aktivnih tvari izučavaju se i kao jednostavan model metaboličkih redoks procesa. Naša istraživanja uključuju razvoj novih postupaka za analizu tragova organskih (fenola) i anorganskih supstancija (teških metala) primjenom spektrofotometrije na krutom nosaču te razvoj i karakterizaciju optičkih senzora za analizu teških metala. Koristi se prevalidacijska strategija za prosudbu kakvoće razvijenih analitičkih postupaka. Također se provodi kvalitativna i kvantitativna analiza bioaktivnih tvari (primjerice tanina, flavonoida, fenolnih kiselina i fitosterola) u biljnom materijalu tankoslojnom kromatografijom i UV-vis spektrofotometrijom.
