Short summary (English)

Two Chairs and one Laboratory share research activites of the Engineering Mechanics Department. The Department deals with statics, dynamics and stability of structures, mechanics of materials and structural testing. The scope of these activities generally encompasses design, structural analysis and structural testing. Designing and structural analysis include: problem solving issues in structural design, carrying out of static and dynamic analysis, design revision, carrying out of projects and expertises on upgrading and retrofitting of existing structures. It involves professional opinions and reconstruction design of structures damaged in earthquake, fire or war as well. A complete and relieable approach is not guaranteed by determining state parameters of complex structure's through analysis, which points at the need of experimental research. Therefore, testing of structures and materials, research on models, behaviour checks and control of safety of completed structures through monitoring are continually conducted in the accreditied laboratory of our Department and on-field as well. To enable experimental research the Department's laboratory is equipped with machines for static and dynamic testing, with diverse sensors (for measurement of displacement, strain, acceleration, temperature and humidity) and required electronic systems for data aquisition and analysis. In addition, the laboratory is equipped with many different devices for nondestructive on-field testing of structures.

Istraživačka djelatnost u Zavodu za tehničku mehaniku odvija su u okviru dviju katedri i laboratorija te obuhvaća područja statike, dinamike i stabilnosti konstrukcija, mehanike materijala i ispitivanja konstrukcija. Načelno se ta djelatnost može podijeliti na projektiranje, proračun i ispitivanje konstrukcija. Djelatnost projektiranja i proračuna konstrukcija obuhvaća: izradu novih konstruktorskih rješenja, provedbu statičkih i dinamičkih proračuna, revizije projekata, izradu projekata i ekspertiza o nadogradnjama i rekonstrukcijama postojećih građevina, stručna mišljenja i izradu projekata sanacije građevina oštećenih u potresu, požaru ili u ratu. Određivanje parametara stanja složenih konstrukcija proračunom ne jamči cjelovit i potpuno pouzdan pristup, što upozorava na potrebu eksperimentalnih istraživanja. Zbog toga se u akreditiranom laboratoriju Zavoda stalno provode ispitivanja konstrukcija i materijala, istraživanja na modelima, provjera ponašanja i kontrola sigurnosti gotovih konstrukcija tijekom eksploatacije (monitoring). Za provođenje eksperimentalnih istraživanja laboratorij Zavoda opremljen je strojevima za statička i dinamička ispitivanja, različitim senzorima (za mjerenje pomaka, deformacija, akceleracije, temperature i vlage) i potrebnim elektronskim sustavima za prikupljanje podataka i njihovu obradu. Osim toga, laboratorij raspolaže s opremom za nedestruktivna ispitivanja konstrukcija.
