Short summary (English)

The department deals with teaching hydro engineering for civil engineers in the scope of undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate studies. Its activities range from research investigations and studies to projects, risk assessment, revisions and expertises. It deals also with investigation and description of fluids flow, in particular of water and air to help solving research and professional problems in civil engineering. The transport of underground water, watercourse or sea carried substances has been recently more focused on. In the research of fluid flow mathematical 2D and 3D models and physical models have been applied at the hydro engineering laboratory. Expertise also includes preparing studies and projects of water supply, sewage collection and disposal systems, waste water treatment, complex hydro engineering systems, from farmlands drainage and irrigation systems, small size hydro-power plants, inland waterways, sea and river ports, quays and marines, watercourse regulations, to the systems from protection from floods. The department uses all standard engineering computer tools and current hydro engineering software.

Osim nastave iz hidrotehničkih predmeta na dodiplomskom studiju, poslijediplomskom studiju te na stručnom građevinskom studiju, svojim visoko stručnim kadrom i suvremenom opremom sudjeluje u osmišljavanju rješenja i razradi najkompleksnijih stručnih hidrotehničkih zadataka, od izrade studija, idejnih rješenja pa do izrade projekata svih razina. Za potrebe investitora Zavod obavlja revizije i recenzije studijske i projektne dokumentacije. Bavi se teorijskim i eksperimentalnim izučavanjem problema bilance voda na tlu i u podzemlju te procesom tečenja fluida. Ekspertize također uključuju korištenje vodnih snaga, regulacije vodotoka, hidrotehničke melioracije, pomorsku hidrotehniku, plovne puteve i luke. Nadalje, odjel izučava probleme vezane uz zaštitu područja od štetnog djelovanja voda, kao i probleme vezane uz upravljanje vodama. Područje interesa odnosi se na sve aspekte vodoopskrbe od zahvaćanja vode, kondicioniranja, transporta, spremanja, do distribucije potrošačima, uključujući sustavnu analizu i smanjenje vodnih gubitaka. Odjel također izučava i problematiku odvodnje od skupljanja otpadnih i oborinskih voda, njihovog transporta kanalskim sustavima do uređaja za pročišćavanje otpadnih voda i konačnog ispusta u prijemnik. Posebno se izučavaju tehnologije pročišćavanja otpadnih voda, oblikovanje i konstrukcija uređaja za pročišćavanje otpadnih voda. Izučavaju se problemi zaštite okoliša, od globalnih promjena u okolišu uzrokovanih antropogenim utjecajima, do mjera i postupaka zaštite okoliša.
