Short summary (English)

Department research activities are based on wide array of themes which are researched through projects. Focus of interest in some projects are data collection methodology with statistical analysis and interpretation. In the same time dendrochronological as well as quantifying influence of certain factors on growth and increment of trees and whole stands is studied. Analysis of forest functions of general benefit, estimation of their value and simulating development and dynamics of forest regeneration and its influence on forest management are some of the themes that have been researched recently. Also, possibilities for remote sensing, geographic information systems, global positioning systems and digital terrain models in forestry, urban forestry, hunting management, nature conservation and the environment are researched. The specificity is a visual interpretation of aerial photographs in stereo-model using a stereoscope and / or digital photogrammetric workstations with the focus on identifying species and determining the health status of individual trees. Research activities associated with digital interpretation on multispectral and hyperspectral satellite images and the images of high spatial and temporal resolution for monitoring, change and biodiversity of forests, land use mapping; urban biotope mapping and wetlands, etc.

Istraživačke aktivnosti Zavoda usmjerene su na širok spektar tema koji se kroz projekte istražuju. Tako su u žarištu interesa u nekima od projekata razvoj metodologija prikupljanja podataka, njihove statističke obrade i interpretacije. Isto tako provode se dendrokronološka istraživanja te istraživanja vezana uz kvantificitranje utjecaja pojedinih čimbenika na rast i prirast pojedinačnih stabala, razvoj i prirast sastojina. Analiza općekorisnih funkcija šuma, procjene njihove vrijednosti i vrijednosti šuma, simuliranje razvoja sastojina te dinamike provođenja obnove na razini šume, odnosno njihov efekt na gospodarenje neke su od važnih tema koje su istraživane u poslijednje vrijeme. Također se istražuju mogućnosti primjene metoda daljinskih istraživanja, geografskog informacijskog sustava, globalnog pozicijskog sustava i digitalnog modela reljefa u šumarstvu, urbanom šumarstvu, lovnom gospodarstvu, zaštiti prirode i okoliša. Posebnost je vizualna interpretacija aerosnimaka u stereomodelu pomoću stereoskopa i/ili digitalne fotogrametrijske radne stanice s težištem na prepoznavanje vrsta drveća i određivanje zdravstvenog stanja pojedinačnih stabala. Istraživačke aktivnosti vezane su i uz digitalnu interpretaciju multi i hiperspektralnih satelitskih snimaka, te snimaka visoke prostorne i vremenske rezolucije, za praćenje stanja, promjena i biološke raznolikosti šuma; kartiranje načina korištenja zemljišta; kartiranje biotopa urbanih i močvarnih staništa, itd.
