Short summary (English)

The main focus of the research group is development of advanced oxidation processes for the degradation of recalcitrant organic pollutants in water and their application for the treatment of chemical industry wastewaters. The research involves chemical, photochemical, photocatalytical, electrical and mechanical advanced oxidation processes, with the special interest on utilization of funcionalised nanosized TiO2 and solar irradiation in order to increase eco-efficiency of water treatment processes. The key expertise: - development of kinetic models for the degradation of dyes, surfactants, pesticides and other different alifatic and aromatic substituted hydrocarbons - development of reactors models - influence of operating parameters and process optimization - identification of degradation products and mechanisms - water monitoring quality and evaluation of process efficiency The research work of the Polymer group is focused on multiphase polymer systems that include study of polymer blends, polymer modified bitumens, PmB and polymer nanocomposites/composites – miscibility, interface, morphology, physical and mechanical properties as well as viscoelasticity functions and relaxation spectras. The phase interaction and rheological properties with emphasis on permanent deformation are research. Polymer processing: synthesis and extrusion, conditions of processing and effects of polymers structure on properties. Studding of degradation and stability of polymer materials, recycling of polymers as well as research on the retarded polymers, and polymer nanocomposites used for food packaging. Study of vulcanization and crosslinking process of rubber.

Istraživačka grupa bavi se razvojem naprednih oksidacijskih procesa za razgradnju postojanih organskih onečišćivala u vodenom mediju s ciljem obrade realnih otpadnih voda kemijske industrije. Istraživanja uključuju kemijske, fotokemijske, fotokatalitičke, električne i mehaničke napredne oksidacijske procese. Poseban interes usmjeren je na korištenje funkcionaliziranih nano čestica TiO2 i sunčeva zračenja s ciljem povećanja ekoučinkovitosti procesa obrade voda. Glavna područja stručnosti istraživača ove grupe uključuju: - razvoj kinetičkih modela razgradnje bojila, tenzida, pesticida i različitih alifatskih i aromatskih supstituiranih ugljikovodika - razvoj reaktorskih modela - utjecaj procesnih parametara i optimiranje procesa - identifikaciju produkata i mehanizama razgradnje - praćenje kakvoće vode i ocjena djelotvornosti procesa Polimerna grupa bavi se istraživanjem i razvojem višefaznih polimernih sustava što podrazumijeva istraživanje polimernih mješavina, polimerom modificirani bitumeni, PMB i polimernih nanokompozita/ kompozita: mješljivosti, međupovršine, morfologije, fizikalnih i mjehaničkih svojstava, te viskoelastične funkcije i relaksacijski spektri. Istražuju se interakcije faza i reološka svojstva s naglaskom na trajnu deformaciju. Istraživanjem procesa i uvjeta sinteze i prerade – ekstrudiranjem/injektiranjem kao i utjecaja strukture na svojstva polimera. Istraživanja uključuju degradaciju i stabilizaciju polimernih materijala, zatim recikliranje polimera kao i istraživanjem polimera smanjene gorivosti i polimernih nanokompozita za pakiranje hrane. Uključeni su u istraživanje procesa vulkanizacije i umreživanja kaučuka/gume.
