Short summary (English)

The scientific work of the Department of Animal Nutrition and Dietetics based on several main areas, namely: Use of nutraceuticals in animal nutrition, evaluation of existing or potential material nutraceutical action with regard to animal health, Nutritional biochemistry, hormonal regulation of metabolism of nutrients and nutrient requirements, interactions of nutrient and genome, and nutritional control of gene expression, Nutritional immunomodulation, effects of a numerous feed compounds on stimulation or suppression of local and systemic immunity, Modifying functional food, nutritionally modifying animal products with an increased amount of desirable bioactive substances, Animal feed safety, research related on the pathways of harmful substances in animal feed, metabolism and the presence of their metabolites in animal products, Innovative technology in feed production, the use of new byproduct of plant origin as a source of nutrients in animal production.

As a part of Department operates Laboratory for Quality and Safety of Animal Feed, which is able to conduct a general analysis of the chemical composition of the feed by Wendee and Van Soest methods, supplemented with gas and liquid chromatography and atomic absorption spectrophotometry.

Department works with the industry through professional - scientific and consulting agreements with the feed industry, animal farms, and manufacturing and trading companies in the country and abroad.

Znanstveni rad Zavoda za prehranu i dijetetiku životinja temelji se na nekoliko glavnih područja, a to su:

  • primjena nutraceutika u prehrani životinja
  • evaluacija postojećih ili potencijalnih tvari nutraceutskog djelovanja s obzirom na zdravlje životinja,
  • hranidbena biokemija
  • hormonalna regulacija metabolizma hranjivih tvari i hranidbenih potreba, interakcija hranjivih tvari i genoma, te hranidbena kontrola ekspresije gena,
  • nutritivna imunomodulacija
  • istraživanja vezana uz učinke nekog sastojka hrane za životinje na stimulaciju ili supresiju lokalne i sustavne imunosti,
  • modificiranje funkcionalne hrane
  • nutritivno modificiranje animalnih proizvoda sa povećanom količinom poželjnih biološki aktivnih tvari,
  • sigurnost hrane za životinje
  • istraživanja vezana uz put širenja štetnih tvari u hrani za životinje, metabolizam i prisustvo njihovih metabolita u životinjskim proizvodima,
  • inovativne tehnologije u proizvodnji hrane
  • korištenje novih uzgrednih proizvoda biljnog porijekla kao izvora hranjivih tvari u animalnoj proizvodnji.

U sastavu zavoda djeluje i Laboratorij za kvalitetu i sigurnost hrane za životinje koji je u mogućnosti provoditi opću kemijsku analizu sastava hrane za životinje Wendee i Van Soest metodama, upotpunjene plinskom i tekućinskom kromatografijom i atomskom apsorpcijskom spektrofotometrijom.

Zavod stručno surađuje sa gospodarstvom kroz stručno - znanstvene i konzultantske ugovore sa industrijom hrane za životinje, farmama, te proizvodnim i trgovačkim tvrtkama u zemlji i inozemstvu.
