Short summary (English)

The scientific field of study at the Department for Biology and Pathology of Fish and Bees consists of laboratory diagnostics for major viral, bacterial, fungal and parasite diseases in aquatic organisms and useful insects. Diagnostic aim is to improve the current mainstream molecular-biological diagnostic methods as well as to introduce the new ones. Scientific researches in the area of beekeeping and aquaculture are mainly conducted and focused on understanding why the particular disease came into existence as well as how to eradicate and control it. Researches in beekeeping are focused on honeybee diseases epidemiology and the simultaneous influence of environmental factors on biological growth condition of bee colonies that are positioned in different regions due to geographical characteristics and climate and pasture conditions. Apart from laboratory diagnostic methods which are included in research of fish diseases, fish healthcare is conducted through improvement of production and feeding technology. For this purpose a “wet laboratory” was put up recently, which will be of great value for the entire process. The scientific results and expertise of Department team professionals, fish breeders and beekeepers are being successfully applied. University teachers are holding seminars and enable life-long education.

Osnovu stručne djelatnosti Zavoda za biologiju i patologiju riba i pčela čine laboratorijska dijagnostika važnijih virusnih, bakterijskih, gljivičnih te nametničkih bolesti riba i pčela. Dijagnostika je usmjerena na unaprjeđenje postojećih klasičnih i uvođenje novih molekularno bioloških dijagnostičkih metoda. Primijenjena znanstvena istraživanja na području pčelarstva i akvakulture provode se uglavnom u svrhu razumijevanja pojavnosti bolesti, kao i na mogućnosti njihova sprječavanja, iskorjenjivanja i suzbijanja. Istraživanja u pčelarstvu su usmjerena na epidemiologiju bolesti pčela te istodobni utjecaj vanjskih čimbenika na biološko uzgojno stanje pčelinjih zajednica smještenih u različitim regijama, a obzirom na razlike u zemljopisnim, klimatskim i pašnim prilikama. Osim laboratorijskih dijagnostičkih metoda koje su sastavni dio istraživanja o bolestima riba, briga o zdravstvenoj zaštiti provodi se i unapređivanjem tehnologije proizvodnje i hranidba riba, a za što će od velike koristi biti i uspostavljeni mokri laboratorij Zavoda. Rezultati znanstvenog i stručnog rada stručnjaka Zavoda uspješno se primjenjuju u suradnji s uzgajivačima riba i pčela. Za potrebe cjeloživotnog obrazovanja nastavnici održavaju stručne tečajeve.
