Short summary (English)

CHEMISTRY: The primary research interest of our group is to synthesized attractive drug candidates by employing design, synthesis, DNA/RNA affinity and evaluation of the small organic molecules. The synthetic work is based on development of compounds which comprise a cationic amidine moiety at terminal part of molecules and selectively interact with nucleic acids. Current projects involve cooperation with other experimental groups on screening the antimicrobial, antiviral and anticancer activities of the synthesized molecules. The influence of the structure of amidine moieties and a linker between them on selectivity and affinity to DNA binding and biological activity of novel molecules was studied.

BIOCHEMISTRY: Focuses research on laboratory medicine, with haemostasis system activity in dogs as a major scientific interest. Numerous original scientific publications mainly focused on alterations of haemostasis and thrombocyte function in canine babesiosis. The main objectives of the conducted investigations were to establish the connection between the hormones, the intensity of inflammation and activity of hemostatic and fibrinolytic systems using different models of canine diseases: babesiosis, obesity and lymphoma. Laboratory measurements include the use of spectrophotometric, species-specific enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, coagulometric and chemiluminiscent methods.

KEMIJA:Primarni istraživački interes naše grupe je priprava uspješnih potencijalnih lijekova pri čemu koristimo dizajn, sintezu, određivanje afiniteta pri vezivanju na DNA/RNA i biološku evaluaciju malih organskih molekula. Sinteza se temelji na pripravi spojeva koji sadrže kationsku amidinsku skupinu na terminalnom dijelu molekule i selektivno se vežu na nukleinske kiseline. Aktualni projekt uključuje suradnju s drugim eksperimentalnim grupama na testiranju antimikrobne, antiviralne i protutumorske aktivnosti novo priređenih spojeva. Proučava se utjecaj strukture amidinskih skupina i poveznice između njih na selektivnost i afinitet pri vezivanju na DNA/RNA i biološku aktivnost priređenih molekula.

BIOKEMIJA: Istraživanja su fokusirana na laboratorijsku medicinu i aktivnost hemostatskog sustava kod pasa. Mnoge originalne znanstvene publikacije baziraju se na promjenama hemostatskog sustava i trombocitnih funkcija u babeziozi pasa. Glavna tematika provedenih istraživanja uključuje utvrđivanje međudjelovanja hormona, upale i aktivnosti hemostatskog i fibrinolitičkog sustava u različitim modelima bolesti kod pasa, kao što su babezioza, povećana tjelesna težina i limfomi. Laboratorijska mjerenja uključuju upotrebu imunokemijskih, spektrofotometrijskih, vrsno specifičnih ELISA testova, koagulometrijskih i kemiluminiscentnih metoda.
