Short summary (English)

Chair of Water and Environmental Engineering at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture functions as a center for the development of advanced water treatment technologies. Primary area of research interest is focused on the application of advanced oxidation processes (UV, UV/O3, UV/H2O2, UV/TiO2, high power ultrasound) and membrane technologies for the degradation of emerging contaminants of concern (pesticides, dyes, active pharmaceutical ingredients and personal care products) which cannot be completely removed by conventional water treatment technology. Since the most of our research is applied and focused on industrial and municipal systems, the ultimate goal of our research activities is to answer the pressing need to better understand the emerging challenges related to drinking water and wastewater, devise innovative solutions and transfer them to industrial applications. Moreover, the Chair is strongly engaged in development, promotion and implementation of environment friendly waste management systems.

Katedra za inženjerstvo vode i okoliša na Fakultetu strojarstva i brodogradnje djeluje kao centar za razvoj naprednih tehnologija za obradu voda. Primarno područje znanstvenog interesa je usmjereno na primjenu naprednih oksidacijskih procesa (UV, UV/O3, UV/H2O2, UV/TiO2, ultrazvuk visoke snage) i membranskih tehnologija za razgradnju zagađivala koja su tek u novije vrijeme prepoznata kao značajan problem (pesticidi, boje, lijekovi i sredstva za osobnu njegu), a klasičnim postupcima obrade vode teško se uklanjaju. Budući da je većina naših istraživanja primijenjena i usmjerena na rješavanje praktičnih problema u industriji i komunalnim sustavima, glavni cilj naših istraživanja je odgovoriti na goruću potrebu za boljim razumijevanjem novih izazova u području pitkih i otpadnih voda, osmisliti inovativna rješenja te ih prenijeti u industrijsku primjenu. Pored toga, Katedra je aktivna u razvoju, promociji i primjeni ekološki zasnovanih sustava gospodarenja otpadom.
