Short summary (English)

Research at the Chair of Fluid Mechanics covers development and application of theoretical/numerical and experimental methods in solving a wide range of problems related to fluid (liquid and gas) flows and heat transfer (conduction, convection and radiation). We model and solve steady and unsteady problems with turbulence and phase change in the field of mechanical and biomedical engineering, using in-house developed and commercial software. Examples of carried out simulations are: - steady and unsteady flow in complex pipe networks (water-hammer analysis in water supply systems, oil transport pipelines, gas networks, ect.), - modeling and simulation of blood flow in circulatory system, - simulation of carbon diffusion during surface cementation process, - simulation of thermal effects of district heating networks to parallel laid electric cables, - optimization of wind barriers on freeway, - simulation of electric arc quenching in high voltage circuit breaker, - simulation of continuous casting process, - fluid flow around moving objects, in hydraulic machinery, and so on. Regarding experimental approach we cover: - wind loading of engineering infrastructure, vehicles and trains, - dispersion and dilution of air pollutants in an atmospheric environment, - geophysical flows, - wind-tunnel testing. We offer to industrial clients the support in optimization, development and improvement of their products, as well as the failure analysis.

Istraživanja na Katedri za mehaniku fluida obuhvaćaju razvoj i primjenu teorijskih / numeričkih i eksperimentalnih metoda u rješavanju cijelog niza problema vezanih za strujanje kapljevina i plinova uz prijenos topline (provođenjem, konvekcijom i zračenjem). Matematički modeliramo i rješavavamo stacionarne i nestacionarne probleme s turbulencijom i promjenom faze u području strojarstva i biomedicinskog inženjerstva, pomoću vlastito razvijenih i komercijalnih računalnih programa. Primjeri provedenih simulacija su: - stacionarno i nestaciorno strujanje u složenim cijevnim mrežama (analiza hidrauličkog udara u vodoopskrbnim sustavima, cjevovodima za transport nafte, plinovodnim mrežama, itd..), - modeliranje i simulacija protoka krvi u krvožilnom sustavu, - simulacija difuzije ugljika u procesu cementiranja, - simulacija toplinskih učinaka toplovoda na paralelno položene električne kabele, - optimizacija burobrana na autocesti, - simulacija gašenja elektičnog luka u visokonaponskom prekidaču, - simulacija procesa kontinuiranog lijevanja, - strujanje tekućine oko pokretnih objekata, u hidrauličkim strojevima i tako dalje. Što se tiče eksperimentalnog pristupa pokrivamo: - određivanje opterećenja vjetra na objekte, vozila i vlakove, - širenje onečišćenja u okolišu, - geofizička strujanja, - modelska ispitivanja u zračnom tunelu. Industrijskim klijenatima nudimo podršku u optimizaciji, razvoju i poboljšanju njihovih proizvoda, kao i analizu uzroka štete.
