Short summary (English)

Researchers at the Department have broad expertise in identification and control of pathogens harmful mainly to agricultural plants. Identification of plant pathogens such as fungi, viruses and bacteria are obtained by conventional and molecular methods. In phytomycology, currently is running a project for monitoring of pathogenic fungi on Croatian endemic plants as well as on medicinal and aromatic plants. Furthermore, Department posses well formed laboratory for seed quality analyses and evaluation. In phytobacteriology, based on strong background ihas been implemented methods for monitoring and forecast of fire blight (Erwinia amylovora). Beside this, diagnostic of various plant pathogenic bacteria is continuously conducted. In phytovirology, efforts are embedded in constitution of collections: i) woody indicators for detection of grapevine viruses, ii) vineyard with autochthonous grapevine cultivars for in vivo preservation of viruses. As Department has also advisory engagement in providing recommendation for disease control a part of research iactivities are in direction of development and application of plant protection measures. Primary research in this segment is evaluation of fungicidal efficacy in the field for purpose of pharmaceutical companies and fungal susceptibility to fungicides. Studying of environmentally acceptable plant protection include the screening of possible biocontrol agents, mainly Trichoderma species, and development of formulation based on perspective biocontrol agents.

Osnovna djelatnost Zavoda je identifikacija i suzbijanje mikroorganizama patogenih prvenstveno za poljoprivredne kulture. Identifikacija patogena kao što su gljivice, bakterije i virusi obavlja se na Zavodu konvencionalnim i molekularnim metodama. U fitomikologiji trenutno je aktivan projekt istraživanja gljivica patogenih na biljakam koje su endemi za Hrvatsku kao i za aromatske i ljekovite biljke. Također, aktivan je i laboratorij za analize i evaluaciju kvalitete sjemena. U fitobakteriologiji, Zavod može ponuditi usluge praćenja i prognoze pojave bakterijske paleži (Erwinia amylovora). Nadalje, kontinuirano se provodi dijagnostika raznih biljno patogenih bakterija. U fitovirologiji uloženi su napori u podizanje i održavanje dviju kolekcija: i) nasada drvenastih indikatora za testiranje virusa vinove loze, ii) vinograd autohtonih kultivara loze za čuvanje virusa vinove loze in vivo. Zavod ima i savjetodavni karakter te pruža usluge izdavanja preporuka za zaštitu bilja od bolesti temeljem istraživanja koje se na Zavodu provodi. U tom djelu naglasak je na istraživanju učinkovitosti fungicida u polju za potrebe farmaceutskih kompanija kao i testiranja osjetljivosti gljivica na fungicide. Istraživanja biljne zaštite prihvatljive za okoliš uključuju probiranje autohtonih izolata roda Trichoderma u cilju izdvajanja mogućih čimbenika za biološku borbu.
